Grove Primary School

This project was split into two phases so that Phase 1 would be completed in time for the start of the new school term.

It comprised of the removal of two large areas of asbestos ceiling then the demolition of two large internal classrooms which required the erection of temporary roof supports until permanent steel joists where installed. These works also required substantial alterations to the electricity and heating systems. Once these elements were completed the ceilings were re-boarded, new floor coverings were laid with a complete re-decoration.

Phase Two comprised of the formation of a new lobby/reception which included new entrance doors and electric security shutters, the formation of two new reception hatches with fire proof screens, a new staff room and meeting room.  All of the above included major alterations to the heating and electricity circuits and underground drainage. These areas were then second fixed, to include kitchens, fitted cupboards and shelving. They were then carpeted and decorated. During the last week (half term holiday), we replaced all of the internal doors and frames and decorated in the remaining areas of the school.  In conjunction with Phase 2 we carried out the total replacement of all the roof coverings, both flat and pitched (incl 20no roof lights), and the renewal of high level “north light” windows.

This ‘fast track multi-trade project was carried out in a ‘live environment’ by Mossvale’s own direct labour therefore at all times, communication was key in order for the school to function normally with health and safety being of paramount importance.
